The reception for Britney Spears' new single"Hold It Against Me" has been nothing short of glowing. The die hard fans adore it, the radio stations are all over it, consumers have made it the best-selling single on iTunes and it will almost certainly debut somewhere high in the Hot 100 next week (and considering the overwhelming digital sales, it's possible it could bow at number one). All told, "Hold It Against Me" promises to be one of Spears' biggest singles.

In fact, the 29-year-old superstar has made a habit out of delivering massive lead singles from each of her albums. Her very first was "...Baby One More Time," still perhaps her most iconic hit. When Oops! ... I Did It Again dropped in 2000, it was preceded by the hugely catchy title track. 2001's Britney kicked off with the slinky, sexy "I'm a Slave 4 U," while 2003's In the Zone featured "Me Against the Music" (a duet with Madonna) as its premiere single. After some time off, Spears returned with 2007's Blackout and the punchy, dance-kissed "Gimme More." She stayed on the dance tip for 2008's "Womanizer," which hit as the lead single from Circus. Even the two lead singles she has released from her two best-of compilations —"My Prerogative" and "3" — are strong entries.

But which one reigns supreme over the others? They're all great songs, but we'll let you choose the dominant one. Pick your favorite below and let us know your arguments in the comments!

Salt cod fishcake recipe

Iggy Campos from Iggs fries up a traditional Portuguese snack for Taste of Edinburgh

Serves 8

Ingredients

2kg salt cod fillet
5 large egg whites
5 chilli peppers, seeded and finely chopped
50g fresh coriander, chopped
8 limes, rind finely grated of 4
½ tsp salt
white flour for coating
500ml groundnut or sunflower oil

Method: How to make fishcakes

1. Leave the salt cod under cold running water for 25 minutes. Pat dry and chop coarsely. Place in a food processor with the egg whites and pulse until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and mix thoroughly with chillies, coriander, grated lime rind and salt. Weigh out 85g of the mixture and shape it into a patty. Coat the fishcake in flour. Repeat with the rest of the mixture.

2. Heat the oil in a deep-fryer and fry the fishcakes in batches for 4 minutes each at 180°C. Allow to rest for 2 minutes, then fry for a further minute. Squeeze the juice of the 4 limes over the fishcakes. Cut the remaining limes into wedges and serve immediately.

Piri Piri chicken meal

Serves 4 (with 2 tarts left over)

Ingredients

For the chicken

4 large chicken thighs, skin on and bone in
1 red pepper
1 yellow pepper
6 sprigs of fresh thyme

For the Piri Piri sauce

½ a red onion
2 cloves of garlic
1-2 bird's-eye chillies
1 tbsp sweet smoked paprika
1 lemon
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
A bunch of fresh basil

For the potatoes

1 medium potato
2 sweet potatoes
½ a lemon
1 fresh red chilli
A bunch of fresh coriander
50g feta cheese

For the tarts (makes 6 tarts)

Plain flour, for dusting
1 x 375g pack of pre-rolled puff pastry
Ground cinnamon
125g crème fraîche
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla paste or vanilla extract
5 tbsp golden caster sugar
1 orange

For the seasonings

Olive oil
Extra virgin olive oil
Sea salt and black pepper

For the salad

1 x 100g bag of prewashed wild rocket
½ a lemon

Method: How to make Piri Piri chicken and quick Portuguese tarts meal

Follow Jamie's step-by-step guide to make this full meal with dessert in just 30 minutes.

To start: Get all your ingredients and equipment ready. Turn the oven on to 200°C/400°F/gas 6. Put a large griddle pan on a high heat.

Chicken: Put the chicken thighs on a plastic chopping board, skin side down, and slash the meat on each one a few times. Drizzle with olive oil and season, then put on the griddle pan that is heating up, skin side down. Cook until golden underneath, then turn over. Wash your hands.

Tarts: Dust a clean surface with flour. Unroll the sheet of pastry, then cut it in half so you end up with two 20 x 20cm squares of pastry (put one in the fridge for another day). Sprinkle over a few good pinches of ground cinnamon, then roll the pastry into a Swiss roll shape and cut into 6 rounds. Put these into 6 of the holes in a muffin tin, and use your thumbs to stretch and mould the pastry into the holes so the bottom is flat and the pastry comes up to the top. Put on the top shelf of the oven and cook for around 8 to 10 minutes (set the timer), or until lightly golden.

Potatoes: Wash the potato and sweet potatoes and halve lengthways. Put them into a large microwave-safe bowl with ½ a lemon. Cover with cling film and put into the microwave on full power for 15 minutes.

Chicken: Turn the chicken over.

Tarts: Spoon the crème fraîche into a small bowl. Add the egg, vanilla paste or extract, 1 tablespoon of golden caster sugar and the zest of 1 orange. Mix well.

Piri Piri sauce: Peel and roughly chop the red onion half and add to the liquidizer with 2 peeled cloves of garlic. Add the chillies (stalks removed), 1 tablespoon of paprika, the zest of 1 lemon and juice of½ a lemon. Add 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, a good pinch of salt and pepper, the bunch of basil and a swig of water. Blitz until smooth.

Chicken: Slice the peppers into strips and add to the griddle pan. Turn the heat down to medium and keep moving the peppers around.

Tarts: Take the muffin tin out of the oven, and use a teaspoon to press the puffed up pastry back to the sides and make room for the filling. Spoon the crème fraîche mixture into the tart cases, and return to the top shelf of the oven. Set the timer for 8 minutes.

Chicken: Pour the piri piri sauce into a snug-fitting roasting tray. Lay the peppers on top and put aside. Add the chicken to the roasting tray with the sauce. Scatter over the sprigs of thyme, then put the tray into the middle of the oven.

Tarts: Put a small saucepan on a high heat. Squeeze in the juice from the zested orange and add 4 tablespoons of golden caster sugar. Stir and keep a good eye on it, but remember caramel can burn badly so don't touch or taste.

Potatoes: Finely chop the red chilli and most of the coriander on a board, mixing as you go. Add the feta and keep chopping and mixing.

Chicken: Take the tarts out of the oven and move the chicken up to the top shelf to cook for around 10 minutes, or until cooked through.

Tarts: Pour some caramel over each tart (they’ll still be wobbly, but that's good). Put aside to set

Salad: Quickly dress the rocket, still in its bag, with extra virgin olive oil, a good pinch of salt and pepper and the juice of ½ a lemon. Tip into a bowl and take to the table.

Potatoes: Check the potatoes are cooked through, then use tongs to squeeze over the cooked lemon. Add the coriander mixture from the chopping board and mix everything together. Season, then take to the table.

To serve: Get the tray of chicken out of the oven, sprinkle over a few coriander leaves and take straight to the table.

Quase um ano após o seu colapso, Britney Spears diz que se sente mais madura. Para ser exato, “Eu me sinto uma idosa agora”, ela disse em entrevista para a próxima edição da Rolling Stone, disponível na próxima sexta-feira. “É sério! Eu vou para a cama, tipo, às 9h30 toda noite, e eu não saio por aí nem nada.”

Spears fará 27 anos no dia 2 de dezembro, no mesmo dia em que seu álbum, Circus, chegar as lojas. “Esse será o álbum que consolidará seu status de lenda”, disse seu empresário, Larry Rudolph.

De fato, a Pop Star vem de um longo caminho das suas duas internações em hospitais psiquiátricos nesse ano, a revista diz. Depois da última internação, no começo de fevereiro, seu pai, Jamie Spears, foi nomeado seu conservador, assim como o advogado Andrew Wallet, para que os dois pudessem cuidar de suas finanças e seus afazeres pessoais.

Entrevistar a estrela foi um “processo rigorosamente controlado”, de acordo com a Rolling Stone.

“Nós nunca éramos deixados a sós, e minhas perguntas tinham de ser enviadas previamente para aprovação”, disso o repórter Jenny Eliscu.

Rudolph diz: “O trabalho dela é ser Britney Spears, e infelizmente, esse trabalho acaba invadindo sua vida pessoal e cria toda essa situação singular onde ela precisa ter pessoas que a protegem todo o tempo.”

Isso vale para encontros amorosos também. Recentemente, Spears foi a um acompanhada de sua assistente, Brett, e um colega de Rudolph, Adam Leber. “Assim que chegamos lá, ficamos sabendo que seria ruim”, Spears disse. “Ele parecia uma versão mais velha de Harry Potter, porém mais magro. Então eu tive que pedir a sobremesa mais cedo. E o outro encontro que eu tive, o cara era muito, muito alto e muito mais velho. Ela é crítica ao seu ex-marido e diz que as crianças “estão começando a aprender palavras como ‘estúpido’, e Preston diz a ‘palavra-com-f’ (fuck) agora algumas vezes. Ele não aprendeu isso com a gente. Ele deve ter aprendido com o pai. Eu digo isso, mas não na presença dos meus filhos.”

A revista Rolling Stone, a mesma no qual Britney será capa em breve com um novo ensaio, divulgou sua crítica ao álbum Circus, que será lançado em todo o mundo semana que vem. O álbum recebeu um total de 3 estrelas e meia, de um total de 5 — a mesma nota dada ao álbum Blackout ano passado pela revista. Confira a tradução da crítica:

Britney pode ter deixado a ala psiquiátrica, mas no Circus, ela prova que ainda é excêntrica. O pop ousado e “club” em seu sexto álbum — o primeiro desde que foi liberada e de perder a guarda dos filhos — pode ser considerado uma ótima continuação do seu álbum de 2003, In The Zone. Os produtores de Toxic Bloodshy & Avant fazem sua parte novamente com a melódica e ardente Unusual You. A produzida por Max Martin If U Seek Amy (fale isso rápido) é atrevida e incomumente alegre, e a violenta e insulta-paparazzi Kill the Lights é uma síntese do Blackout de 2007.

Os vocais de Britney no Blackout davam a impressão que que ela estava cantando de um telefone, mas no Circus ela realmente gravou tudo com tempo em estúdio, e cantando de verdade algumas músicas lentas. Guy Sigsworth, da banda Frou Frou contribui com Out From Under, a melhor balada de Britney desde I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman. Mas tem algumas porcarias também: Blur produzida por Danja é uma nova versão da ressaca de 2003 Early Mornin', quando a mãe de dois filhos canta “Onde diabos eu estou?”. Ela também fez a seus filhos um grande serviço mal feito com My Baby, a banal balada dedicada a eles. E a mamãe mostra que tem psicodrama a tratar em Mmm Papi, uma animada travessura com problemas paternos (“Me agarre bem forte e não me deixe cair / Mmm Papai, te amo”): Isso é sobre o papai que controla seus negócios ou o paparazzo com qual ela teve um namoro? O fato de estarmos ao menos curiosos mostra que Britney não perdeu seu talento: seus fãs ainda não conseguem se desvencilhar.
